snowy dinner

Friday was a much-anticipated blizzard. It was really snowing hard. Nevertheless, Ank, Margo, Bouff, Kara and I proceeded with our dinner plans, all arriving at Silvertone by various T lines.
It was so lovely to see everyone and I find myself wondering why we don’t do it more often. These women are not just smart and educated (2 MDs, 1 PhD, 2 JDs, 1 masters degree among them) but also funny, down-to-earth, and warm. We have the kind of rich history that lets us jump into conversation midstream, the kind of long backlog that allows arcane references to be immediately understood by all. Who else knows what TDF, a DTR, and a T and a P mean?

Loved seeing you all, and here’s to a 2009 with more frequent visits.

Delightfully mellow morning. Everyone else went sledding with the Lavallees and I stayed home with my book to try to finally kick this cough that I can’t seem to get rid of. I also made a chard/spinach/mushroom gratin for dinner tonight with Mum and Dad.

Spent some time poking through flickr, and found these great old pictures in Terence’s photostream. From Hilary and Terence’s wedding, November 2004. Grace looks so young! I’m reminded of her immediate and passionate attachment to T.

This afternoon will go with the children and Mum and Dad to a tree trimming at the Youngs, a family that I grew up with. Then back here for early dinner and early to bed. Tomorrow is the solstice. I am thoughtful and a little melancholy; Lace, you are with me in spirit.

dona nobis pacem

I love this picture of a holiday peace sign that I found on flickr.

Have dona nobis pacem in my head tonight – slightly random video but you can hear it here:

Feeling tired tonight, and wistful. Mostly, very thankful for those few special people who do bring peace to my restless heart. May there be more of that peace, and more time with you, in 2009.

A big day. Grace lost her first tooth!
