Blackstone has filed. KKR supposedly hot on their heels.

Wow. I think we are seeing the authentication – the “officialization” – of these alternative investment vehicles. Jonathan swears Providence isn’t going down that road. Who knows. I’m sure a diversification of our offering is in the works, though, and that implies increased sophistication of the internal management (my hiring was one piece of that). Of course am reminded of the brouhaha over the Goldman IPO almost 10 years ago. Small group of folks going to get really rich and really liquid, really fast.

“Everyone should carefully observe which way his heart draws him, and then choose that way with all his strength.” – Hasidic saying

If only they offered a map for figuring out which way that was …

Since yesterday afternoon have barely been able to turn my head – my neck is all seized up and I have no idea why. The hypochondriac in me is worried that the MS they thought I had 5-6 years ago has reared its head again … the practical in me thinks it is the new car and not having the seats right.

Either way, it sucks!

Pictures above are from Margo – I just love them. The friend is Colin who is near and dear to both Gracie and Whit. We can’t wait to welcome his new brother or sister this summer! One moment of self congratulation for downloading the scanner drivers from hp.com all by myself, and now I’m successfully scanning on the new mac … getting so darned tech-savvy it’s amazing. HP has endeared themselves to me by providing a free return mail envelope to send in used printer cartridges. This is exactly the kind of initiative we need! (says the SUV driving girl … argh!)

Has been a day of car maintenance for me. Morning drop off at Subaru, then off to Volvo for some more paperwork and stickers and blah blah blah and then back to Subaru … now taking Grace to Full Moon with Wendy and her kids so Wendy and I can talk alumni council/board stuff.

Feels today as though spring is really around the corner. I’m looking forward to April, with a trip to see Hadley & Charlotte, a SF trip for work, and hopefully increased comfort/responsibility/in-the-grooveness at work.

PS I am now a serious NPR listener. Last night they compared the attorney general to Godot. Only on wbur.

Long drive in today because of an overturned multi-axel truck on 95. Long as in: I put the car in park for 30 minutes.

This is a post of unrelated and meaningless minutiae.

As I was turning on the TV last night to find Sesame Street, a Christina Aguilera video popped up in the corner of the on demand screen and Grace shouted, “Hey! That’s CandyMan!” – thoroughly terrifying. Is she watching MTV with Anastasia? No idea how that is happening. Reminds me of Whit’s early days when he watched non-stop BET with Antoinette until the wee hours. He doesn’t seem to have picked up any rhythm by osmosis, at least as far as I can tell.

In the good-save annals: Mimi was here this past Saturday. She tubbed the kids and got them ready for bed, and as we were going out I gave a diapered Whit a hug. Oops, he was wearing a swim diaper. Would have been a long and wet night.

Last night was my favorite kind of evening at home: put the kids to bed, spent about an hour on the computer and then climbed into bed with my book. At 9:00 my eyes felt heavy and I decided to just see if I could fall asleep. I passed out and woke up by myself at 6am. One of those nights of sleep where the bed was barely disturbed, still looked made. I so rarely sleep like that – divine.

Having dinner tonight with Sarah DiTroia and Julia Clarkson and I can’t wait. I NEVER see them and it’s such a treat to have a chance to visit and catch up. And tomorrow is a day of car maintenance for me. Just hoping I can squeeze in a run in between the Subaru and Volvo dealerships, Whit’s art class, and Grace’s swim class. Now that I think about it, doesn’t look very promising!
