The temptation towards resolution, towards wrapping up the package, seems to me a terrible trap. Why not be more honest with the moment? The most authentic endings are the ones which are already revolving towards another beginning.

Love this! Thank you for posting. So true
Wow, somehow I haven’t read Sam Shepard yet but clearly I need to! The temptation toward resolution for me is more like an obsession, but I am trying to be more honest in the moment. Living in Boston helps! I’ve never met a more “honest in the moment” crowd as my fellow citizens here.
Yesterday we had our first 4th grade Girl Scout meeting with me as a leader, and when a girl asked if I liked Girl Scouts as a kid, I wanted so badly to say yes but told the truth instead. And then when the same kid asked me what I did like about it, I wanted to say something sweet and innocent, but instead I found myself telling the truth. “Swinging an axe to chop wood.” Guess what all the girls are excited to learn how to do now…. 😉
