Gentleness is everywhere in daily life, a sign that faith rules through ordinary things: through cooking and small talk, through storytelling, making love, fishing, tending animals and sweet corn and flowers, through sports, music and books, raising kids — all the places where the gravy soaks in and grace shines through.
-Garrison Keillor, We Are Still Married
Thank you to my beloved sister Hilary for pointing me to this quotation.
How lovely. I am always taken by how many beautiful quotes you find about Grace. That little girl sure is aptly named…
Love this, too. Thank you for sharing. Another flower in the quote garden!
A friend of mine said “I want a small life,” and I can’t stop thinking about it, because that’s what I want too: the sunrise, a cup of coffee, a long walk with my dogs, clean sheets on the bed, flowers from my garden on my writing desk, the same yoga class I’ve been attending for the past five years, the hand I’ve held for 20–all the small moments of gravy and light. Thanks for this, for being you, gentle and lit up.
Oh, so lovely — and Jill, I love your “quote” just as much! (Is there gentleness in texting? If not, I’m in trouble!) xox
Oh, thank you. I’ve been holding your last line close since you wrote it, so, so kindly. Thank you. xox
Can’t be an accident, I’m thinking 🙂 xox
So beautiful. You know I had coffee with him a few weeks ago. He lives in my neighborhood and owns a bookstore around the corner…yet I still get goosebumps each time I run into him at the coffee shop. He always pats Astrid on the head and tells me that she’s the cutest child on the planet.
Wow! That is so cool! xo
