This is the board above my desk. I look at it all day long. It holds pictures of those I love most, a few notes from family, and a small set of prayer flags. Some have noted with surprise that there is only one quote on the board. This seems strange, I guess, for someone who loves words, quotes, poems, and lyrics as I do. I think it just shows how I value these lines, possibly above all others.
It may be that when we no longer know what to do,
we have come to our real work.
And that when we no longer know which way to go,
we have begun our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.
– Wendell Berry
I’m not sure what I want to do first- create a board like yours or get that quote into my quote book. Love both so, so much. And I thought of you when I wrote my blog post today focused on “The days are long but the years are short”- Gretchen Rubin
I love this quote and find it so fitting for me whilst in my new stage of life in Chile. I don’t know which way to go… The landscape is new and the setting, unfamiliar. And interestingly, I just bought a book of essays by Wendell Berry. Profound. It looks like you’ve had a good summer. I pray your autumn is as rich and wonderful. We are headed towards spring – and for that I’m so thankful.
Blessings,
Tina
Love that quote. Love your board. Love, love, love….
It is very frightening to get to a place in your life when you can no longer see the path, when the future is so uncertain and you just can’t seem to find direction. I read something very comforting recently. If you no longer know which way to go, and you feel lost and confused, then live fully in this condition, absorb it, and know that you are supposed to be scared and lost. This is exactly where you are meant to be!
