Red carpet

Marisa Tomei: love. I think my favorite! Versace. Who would have thought. I LOVE IT.

Angelina: no. I do not like sweetheart necklines, even on her.

Amy Adams: great necklace. great redhead.

Kate Winslet: I want to love it. But do not. Deeply lukewarm. And the hair: weird.

Freida Pinto: love love love love love.

Jessica Biel: good God, no. hard to make her look schlumpy, but this dress does. PS why is she there?

Mickey Rourke: kind of fabulous in a totally strange and vaguely scary way.

today’s look

He really is very committed to the double shirt look. Preferably a rugby underneath a sizes-too-small tee shirt, where he can jauntily put the collar up.

It is surprisingly rare that I know any of the quotes on the “quotes of the day” page that I check daily. And even more unusual – I think this is only the second time – that a dear favorite appears. For all of my passionate (cowardly?) love of other people’s words, I don’t know very many quotations by heart (my pea brain just thumbs my well-worn quote books to find them). This is one of them.

We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke and a presumption that once our eyes watered.
-Stoppard, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern

I find these words simultaneously depressing and edifying.

Sharing lollipops this afternoon. Of note: Whit dropped his on the pavement and put it right back in his mouth with my complete support (all together now: what a mom!)

Walking along the street, Grace noticed some trash. “Mum! I’m going to pick up this litter.”

Whit ran over to help her but she had snagged both the dirty plastic spoon and the plastic wrapper before he could reach them. He started crying “Wait! I want to help!”

Five minutes of whining and foot-dragging later, he turned mournfully to me:

“Mummy, there’s no glitter for me!!!”
