Anna & Twilight

Fighting off a cold today.

Have started Twilight on Anna’s recommendation. Oh Anna, thank you thank you! My lifetime self-assessment partner: thank God for you. I feel a bit like the person who started reading Harry Potter I when VI came out, but there you go. Am on page 18 and as promised it is a quick read indeed.

I said: what do I read when Vogue feels like The Economist – too many dense articles? She said: Twilight is for you. Anna’s reading list is varied and fascinating (she is also 100% kindle now … hmmm) and she is one of the few people whose recommendations I take instantly to heart.

Questionnaire

This is how I feel today. Blurry. Out of focus. Off center.

Read Gloria’s blog and loved it. She refers to Emma Thompson’s Vanity Fair Proust Questionnaire, reminding me of a page of that magazine I’ve long loved. I have asked friends about it on airplanes, read it many times, and thought about my answers. So, today, from the murk of the empty echoing cavern that is my brain, are my answers.

Insomnia. Lonely, full of ghosts, and I panic about being tired the next day (preemptive anxiety being a specialty of mine).

A sense of humor. Not taking her life too seriously. Fearless intelligence, even when it is contrarian. Physical courage & risktaking.

Definitely TBD. Am hopeful I will someday know!

Who would you have liked to be?
Pretty much anyone more centered and confident than I am!

VF minutiae

Happy valentine’s day! I don’t like this holiday and never have. Did enjoy a lovely valentine breakfast at CES and have been getting all kinds of emails from people with adorable pictures of their children. That’s a valentine tradition I can embrace.

Now. As we all know everyone loves lists and most people love minutiae. I sure do. Vanity Fair has two recurring pieces I love – the back questionnaire (thought-provoking) and the “My Stuff” column (minutiae). I’d love to know all the following about all of you (whoever you are). Still feeling a little gloomy, I think it’s a case of the Februaries, but I’m going to distract myself with this questionnaire … how solipsistic to imagine anyone will care. But, I’d love to have these answers for anyone who wants to send them to me!
