We are hurt; we are lonely; and we turn to music or words, and as compensation beyond all price we are given glimpses of the world on the other side of time and space. We all have glimpses of glory as children, and as we grow up we forget them, or are taught to think we made them up; they couldn’t possibly have been real, because to most of us who are grown up, reality is like radium, and can be borne only in small quantities.
– Madeleine L’Engle, Walking On Water
Wow.
Yes. I love L’Engle.
I started dreaming my biggest dream when I was 54. I started writing. Without a chance of being the 1% who get traditionally published, I went Indie, the wild west, an exciting place to be but I’m still working towards that ultimate dose of radium, a traditional publisher. Traditional is a strange word to describe me. My sense of wonder is sharper than ever and as I approach 60 I feel more than ever caution should be thrown to the wind as life is short. So I’m not sure what to make of this particular quote although I always turn to music and words and love the quotes you share..
