There are mothers
for everything, and the sea
is a mother too,
whispering and whispering to us
long after we have stopped listening.
I stopped and let myself lean
a moment, against the blue
shoulder of the air. The work
of my heart
is the work of the world’s heart.
There is no other art.
~ Alison Luterman
I’m familiar with Alison Luterman’s wonderful work (highly recommend!) but I didn’t know this poem before. I am thankful that I found it on Claudia’s beautiful blog, First Sip.
Well, if your Monday posts are like the espresso to start my week, your Friday posts are like the dainty croissant that is on the plate next to the cup. Enjoy your weekend–and safe travels back to the East Coast.
hi Lindsey, I just wanted you to know that sometimes I’m in a bit of a rush when I sit down and read email posts. Sometimes, I even begin to read one of your posts when I’m surrounded by noise and chaos. But, inevitably, I think, “oh, this is too good. I have to come back to this when I can really sink into it, and experience her writing.” Thank you, Lindsey, for sharing your stories with all of us.
Oh, I adore this! I’m not familiar with this writer but I will be now. Thanks Lindsey.
Oh, I love this. Thank you for sharing.
