I mean, by such flightiness, something that feels unsatisfied at the center of my life – that makes me shaky, fickle, inquisitive, and hungry. I could call it a longing for home and not be far wrong. Or I could call it a longing for whatever supersedes, if it cannot pass through, understanding. Other words that come to mind: faith, grace, rest. In my outward appearance and life habits I hardly change … But at the center: I am shaking; I am flashing like tinsel.
– Mary Oliver (Long Life)
while I love the quote, my comment is shallow–I have that kurta! Just packed it for a quick weekend trip to the Hershey Hotel. I also have her tux shirt–those are flattering too. Have a lovely weekend.
Great picture. Great words.
you look beautiful. i too am shaking…trying to regularly take my flashing tinsel into the dance, as movement meditation and spiritual practice. and also gaze at the horizon, wade in the ocean and listen to tidal rhythms.
Great quote. Thanks for sharing.
Mary Oliver is definitely one of my all-time favorite poets. Thank you for sharing. And remember how beautiful the tinsel is in its shaking.
Oooh. Goosebumpy recognition.
When I get those tinsel moments, or see my kids having one, I keep channeling Devotion. I’ve changed the words of her metta meditation a little, and have been repeating to myself, or my girls, or to the world as a whole:
May we be safe.
May we be happy.
May we be strong.
May we be at ease.
Boy do I owe you for pushing me towards Dani’s book. Now, I’m nudging you back in that same direction.
I agree with Aidan: Great picture. Great words.
